PHS Honors Clubs
Plant High offers a wide variety of Honors Clubs for students. Some of our honors clubs include:
Beta Honor
Beta Club is a national organization whose motto is "Let us lead by serving others." The primary qualification for this honor club is a minimum of a 3.8 cumulative GPA, unweighted. The secondary qualification is a minimum of 15 service hours. The service hours must have been documented using the HS Community Service Log prior to the Beta Honor Club application deadline. Qualified tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders will be invited to apply in the Fall. All who complete the application and pay the dues will then be inducted in the latter part of the first semester each year. To maintain membership, students must have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher and no serious disciplinary infractions.
Beta News
All current members will receive a newsletter and payment envelope for dues this week in homeroom. Pay $10 dues by October 21. Order a t-shirt if you wish for an additional $10.
Are you a transfer student who was inducted into BETA at another high school? Bring proof of your membership to Mrs. Louan Tolbert in Guidance and become a member at PHS.
Potential new BETA members: Current 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who meet the GPA requirement for BETA (3.8 unweighted), will receive an invitation to apply to BETA October 22 or 23 in homeroom. Applications will be due October 31. STudents who feel that they qualify but do not receive an application need to see Mrs. Tolbert no later than October 29th.
Gold and Black
The Order of Gold and Black, founded in the fall of 1943, honors Plant students who perform outstanding service for their school, faculty, and student body. Through time, The Order of Gold and Black has evolved into an honor society recognizing the top 15 juniors and seniors in academics, extracurricular activities in sports, music, journalism, drama, and service and interest clubs. Students are selected by a rigorous point system which involves rating students on what they have contributed to the school during their years at Plant. There are two inductions each year; the spring induction honors outstanding juniors and the fall induction brings in an additional 15 seniors who may have earned extra points during the spring and summer before their senior year.
Students who are inducted into The Order of Gold and Black are to be honored for their many accomplishments. As students who are inducted will tell you, “This is the highest honor one can achieve while at Plant.”
Mu Alpha Theta
Science Honor
French Honor
"I Dare You!"
The “I Dare You” Honor Society, one of Plants’ oldest and most prestigious clubs will soon be tapping new members for the last time this academic year.
Students in this club are the highest performing students at Plant High School in the Academic arena.
This year our service to the school includes a tree and plaque that will serve to honor the memory of one of our members, Allyson Faulk. The tree will be planted near the north entrance to the Main Office.
If you are a senior and meet the requirements for membership (six 4.0 progress reports) after the 3rd 9 weeks grade reports are issued, you may apply and be recognized at graduation as a member of the society.
Below is a list of our current membership. Congratulations to these students who have shown exemplary achievements in the classroom and who deserve recognition for their efforts.
